Rodarte, Oh Rodarte... and Galliano

Well, it has been way over a year since my last post, and i am ashamed... well with the uni work we have had to do and an exciting/boring summer i haven't had the time :(, and forgot about it. but no more..

My first post back refers to two of my favourite Collections this SS 2011 season in NY, London, Milan and of-course Paris... and these collections are.. Rodarte and John Galliano, for two totally different reason.

Rodarte was like a complete move forward, in such a grown up sensible ways, gone were the hand stitched, burnt and cut and paste details like that of seasons ago, gone were the dramatic, apocalyptic and mexican border towns theme. but instead it was California in the 70s. Browns and woods that were reminiscent of old crafted austrian houses (for me) and towering red woods in the USA, shapes that were new and leather made to look like wood, Wood panelling, it was america, well a certain part of america, all in 36 looks. Some girls looked like wood nymphs, with embroidered  tops with large high waisted trousers, or some subtly draped skirts.

The clothes were more Simpler, simpler Shapes, a lot more commercial.  With with some fantastic Ming china blue and white dresses towards then end and more gladiatorial style gold dresses as the Finale looks this collection was a winner. and with the possible backing by LVMH, they will have to prove they are suitable to back... (which of-course they are).

Now John Galliano was another favourite for a different reason indeed... for me it was going back, like a retrospective, all these Galliano favourites we have seen from his were on the runway again, Like trousers from the jacques Henri-lartigue cinematic collection, that had rounded seams, and hair that       re-sparked emotions like that of the Spring 2009 Collections, it was all what John is known for, all what has made him a star in the fashion world. Fantastic butterfly printed bias cut gowns, coats with interesting cut, Chiffon blouses what swayed as the model walked, it was all perfect, and to the soundtrack of Snow patrols Chasing cars, but Covered by the Brilliant Vitamin String Quartet, it was romantic and perfect.

The added faces of all of Johns old favourites from Irina Bondarenko, who since from late 1990s to the Dior Spring Couture of 2007, was a permanent fixture at the Dior/Galliano Shows, along with Hedvig Marie Maigre and Michelle Alves. all Galliano Girls and it was so brilliant to see them all back again. John has always had a romantic sensibility about him, but the theme with artists and Maria Lani, made this collection all the more romantic, tragic and beautiful. it was just perfect, Just perfect.
